On Sunday, December 6, 2009 the Town of Yacolt had their annual Christmas Tree Lighting event. The town recently installed holiday banners, purchased and donated by residents, local businesses, and the town. Town employees and volunteers worked long hours to install the lights on the 125 foot tree and the four surrounding smaller trees (all live trees!) as well as hanging lights and preparing for the festivities.
A canopy was set up outside with hot beverages and desserts. It too was decorated with Christmas lights. Despite the cold weather, we had a good turnout.
Adding to the fun were carolers by two local churches, a drawing for fabulous prizes, and a visit by the big man himself! That's right Santa arrived on a fire truck. Santa had the honor of lighting the tree and then settled in for serious discussions with the children who came to visit. Photos were taken and candy canes delivered to content kiddies.
What a lovely evening it was as the town came together to celebrate the holidays and prepare for a new year.
