Photos from the Bigfoot Fun Run

For additional photos please visit www.TownofYacolt.com and click on the Bigfoot Fun Run Results page. The photos are at the bottom of page.

We survived the Bigfoot Fun Run!!

Thank you to all those who supported us during our first Bigfoot Fun Run: SmileBooks.com, Yacolt Trading Post, Spumoni Printing and Embroidery, NW Fit Right, Physical Therapy Associates of Camas, Town of Yacolt, Clark County Restorative Community Services, Clark County Sheriff’s Department, North Country Emergency Medical Services, Clark Public Utilities, and all our volunteers!

We had a wonderful turnout for our first event with over 120 participants and a rush of entries on the morning of race day. Our crowd included folks from Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin, Idaho, Minnesota, California, Washington, and Oregon.

With rain the day before the event, we were happily surprised to find clear skies on Saturday morning. Temperatures were perfect for a walk/run. By the middle of the event, the sun had come out and made for a lovely Northwest day.

Results from the event are posted on the town’s web site www.TownofYacolt.com and on www.Active.com. Despite the many problems we faced posting on Active all week, we finally got them up and running. They were experiencing technical difficulty, which kept us from posting results on Monday, July 5. Thank you for your patience!

Photos will be posted to the town’s web site in the near future, as we continue to gather photos.

See you all again next year.

2010 Easter Egg Hunt

On Saturday, April 3, 2010, the Town turned out for the annual Easter Egg Hunt. This year, they were greeted not only by the Easter Bunny but with freezing temperatures and showers consisting of a rain snow mix. While the weather did not let up it did not dampen the spirits of those in attendance. The children poured out of their warm cars and made their way to meet the Easter Bunny. Mr. Bunny handed out treats from his special never-ending baskets of goodies.

A tent was set up at the North Clark County Little League Field filled with prizes for the day’s event. The prizes included bikes and gift baskets. The tent was manned by Yacolt Citizens Committee members: Crystal Bielec, lead coordinator of the event, Kelly Harmon, and Dave Hancock. Committee members Kelly and Sara Uhacz took photographs of the event for the Town’s web site.

At 10 a.m. the group gathered as Crystal Bielec announced the specific hunting locations for each age group and that there were plastic eggs (two for each age group, one for boys and one for girls) that would contain a ticket for a prize. The coordinators split up with their assigned age groups, led them to their egg hunting grounds, and then opened the gates! The frenzy was fast and the baskets were quickly filled with dyed eggs and a handful of lucky ones walked away with the plastic eggs.

It was another successful Easter Egg Hunt!

Christmas Tree Lighting

On Sunday, December 6, 2009 the Town of Yacolt had their annual Christmas Tree Lighting event. The town recently installed holiday banners, purchased and donated by residents, local businesses, and the town. Town employees and volunteers worked long hours to install the lights on the 125 foot tree and the four surrounding smaller trees (all live trees!) as well as hanging lights and preparing for the festivities.

A canopy was set up outside with hot beverages and desserts. It too was decorated with Christmas lights. Despite the cold weather, we had a good turnout.

Adding to the fun were carolers by two local churches, a drawing for fabulous prizes, and a visit by the big man himself! That's right Santa arrived on a fire truck. Santa had the honor of lighting the tree and then settled in for serious discussions with the children who came to visit. Photos were taken and candy canes delivered to content kiddies.

What a lovely evening it was as the town came together to celebrate the holidays and prepare for a new year.
